Memoir from New Author Captures the Turmoil of a Nation Gripped by War and a Young Man?s Search for Inner and Outer Peace

"The Struggle Within: Protesting the Iraq War" to be released to mark the Iraq War?s 10th anniversary.

Aurora, CO (PRWEB) February 23, 2013

Coinciding with the Iraq war?s 10th anniversary, the book, "The Struggle Within: Protesting the Iraq War" by John Dickson, adds to the reflection and debate on the war the anniversary brings through its story of a young man enduring a soul-searching journey, trying to stop the war before and after it began. The book also reveals an aspect of the war seldom discussed?the war from the perspective of a protestor in conservative North Texas during a time of spiritual, cultural, and political conflict.

?I looked up and saw the Washington Monument towering above and knew this is what America was all about. Not about military, geo-political, or global economic power. It was about the people, plain and simple. It was about people wanting to live in peace and for others to be able do the same, people coming together for power not to be wielded, to be left alone, like the weapon it is, unloaded, with the safety on.?

With almost weekly news reports of continued violence coming from Iraq, combined with U.S. troops coming home facing significant mental and physical challenges, the 10th anniversary of the Iraq war gives the nation and the world an opportunity to reflect on and learn from how the war began and the numerous lives it affected.

Distributed through Amazon?s CreateSpace and Redway Media, "The Struggle Within: Protesting the Iraq War" will be available March 19, 2013 in paperback ($15), ebook, and audiobook ($10).

About the Author: John Dickson is a teacher and writer living in Aurora, Colorado. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of Texas at Arlington and a M. Ed. from Regis University in Denver. His interests lie in social justice, human and animal rights, and making the earth sustainable for future generations of all life forms. He also loves playing guitar, and spending time with his wife, children, and Sophie, the family Welsh Terrier.

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) ? With Cypriots facing the specter of financial meltdown, the conservative candidate in a presidential election runoff was favored to beat his left-wing rival Sunday.

Opposition leader Nicos Anastasiades garnered 45.46 percent of the vote in the first round of voting, about 18 points more than Stavros Malas, who is backed by outgoing President Dimitris Christofias' communist-rooted AKEL party. The candidate who gets the simple majority in the second round will win the race.

The new president will be under pressure to quickly finalize a financial rescue package with the eurozone's other 16 countries, and the International Monetary Fund to keep the country solvent as the economy shrinks and state coffers run dry. He will face a tough battle convincing reluctant countries, especially Germany, that tiny Cyprus deserves help after its banks lost billions of euros on bad Greek debt.

Last year, Cyprus sought financial assistance of up to ?17 billion ($22.7 billion), a sum roughly equivalent to its annual gross domestic product, which has raised concerns whether the country would be able to pay back any loan. The country has been unable to borrow from international markets since mid-2011, and turned to long-time ally Russia last year for a ?2.5 billion ($3.3 billion) loan to keep it afloat.

Cyprus, a divided island of around 1 million people in the far eastern end of the Mediterranean, is one of the smallest members of the 27-nation European Union and faces deep political and economic problems.

In 1974, it was split into an internationally recognized Greek Cypriot south and a breakaway Turkish Cypriot north when Turkey invaded after a coup by supporters of union with Greece. Decades of talks on resolving that division so far have gone nowhere, and dealing with the financial crisis now takes priority. Only the 545,000 eligible voters in the south can cast their ballots in the election.

The conservatives have capitalized on widespread discontent over what many view as five years of failed rule by Christofias. An Anastasiades campaign billboard reading "Could you stand another five years of the same?" plays to that discontent.

"Today's choice is twofold: one is to carry on with today's government and the dead ends that we face. The other is a choice for a new era," Anastasiades, 66, said after voting. "(Voters) will conscientiously choose the future of our county, either to go forward or stay in the past."

Malas, a political newcomer, urged voters to select "policies that will help our country to resist and to safeguard social cohesion."

"We are determining the future of our country in a Europe that is contemplating which course it will follow given this great economic crisis," he said.

Voters understand that financial recovery will be a long, tough struggle, regardless of who wins.

"Whoever wins today will have a difficult time to overcome all these problems, because of the mistakes of the past," said Maria Constantinou, 31. "But with the right policies now, things might get better for us with the president after this new one."

Economist Evangelos Loizides, 60, said: "Things are very, very difficult for us now. A solution won't come from the politicians. It'll come from the Cypriots themselves through their hard work."

Another voter expressed doubt whether either candidate can really deliver.

"Let me put it to you this way. I prefer a Ferrari, but I can only choose between a Mitsubishi and a Toyota," said 36-year-old Panayiotis, who didn't give his last name. "We could've had better choices, more options, but this is what we're presented with."

Eurozone leaders are expected to discuss a Cyprus bailout in the latter half of March. Some have voiced doubt whether Cyprus ? which contributes only 0.2 percent to the eurozone's economy ? is really worth saving, even though Cypriot and European Union officials have warned that allowing the country to fall would jeopardize the eurozone's fragile recovery.

Cyprus has already enacted deep public sector wage cuts and tax hikes under a preliminary bailout agreement.

Mount Clemens boys basketball coach Jermaine Jackson finds that deeper level of team chemistry spawns success

, February 23, 2013 9 a.m.

Mount Clemens coach Jermaine Jackson's passion for developing youth has made the boys basketball team one of the most successful programs in the area this season. - (Jared Purcell | japurcell@mlive.com)

The Mount Clemens boys basketball team has been used to success on the court in recent seasons. After winning its fourth Macomb Area Conference Gold title in a row on Friday night with a 91-84 victory against Warren Woods Tower, it goes without saying that nothing has changed in Mt. Clemens' winning ways.

Well, almost nothing.

When Jermaine Jackson took over the head coaching position at Mt. Clemens this year, he inherited a team that had plenty of talent and grit to continue the dynasty that the program had been building. Most coaches would have a hard time waiting to get on the court and start creating some chemistry.

But for Jackson, he decided to start building chemistry before practice even started.

?The first two weeks before practice, we didn?t train, we didn?t pick up a basketball, we didn?t do anything,? Jackson said. ?I got to know them. I built a relationship with them. No basketball. No anything. I built a relationship with every kid.?

Jackson was not kidding around either. Making an effort to get to know the parents of each player, the brothers and sister ? even the girlfriends ? Jackson wanted his players to know that he was going to do everything in his power to make his team feel like a family. Heck, he even had dinners with some of the families.

Luckily for Jackson, his efforts proved to be fruitful.

?We?re with each other 24-7,? Mt. Clemens sophomore Josh McFolley said. ?We are basically a family, we are like brothers ? We?ve got to learn everybody.?

The tighter the team got off of the court, the tighter it got in games and in practices. As that happened the win began to snowball and now Mt. Clemens sees itself with a 17-1 record with its only loss coming by three points in double overtime to New Haven.

Not bad for chemistry, right?

Jackson, who has a history of mentoring area youth though his own Jermaine Jackson Community Center in Mt. Clemens, he believes that the best can be drawn out of any player if they are placed in the right type of environment. The best way Jackson knows how to create a nurturing environment is by using his strong faith as a guide.

?God got me through,? Jackson said. ?I tell the guys all of the time that it is all God, it?s not us. It?s all God giving us the ability, the strength, the conditioning and the focus and love that we have for each other.?

Maybe Jackson can coin the term ?a team that prays together, wins together.? Plus, it also helps that Jackson knows a thing or two about basketball.

As a former point-guard at University of Detroit Mercy, Jackson also spent some time playing professionally in the NBA and overseas. With his abundant amount of skill and knowledge, combined with his full-throttle attitude, it is no wonder that Mt. Clemens is experiencing one of its greatest seasons ever at this point.

However, Jackson will be the first to remind his players that the season is far from over and that there is plenty of work still to do. For Mt. Clemens, it is all or nothing. That is why the Battling Bathers will celebrate its fourth-straight MAC Gold title by heading back to school and holding a practice right after the game.

?We just won but the guys know that we are going to go back to the school and practice tonight,? Jackson said. ?We?ve got a lot of missed assignments, we weren?t in help-side defense. (Tower) scored 84 points on us. Not to say they can?t score, but we pride ourselves on defense.?

Actually, with the way Jackson has been running the ship so far in his first year, Mt. Clemens can pride itself on everything.

Pope clears decks with appointments, tweaks

VATICAN CITY (AP) ? Pope Benedict XVI is clearing the decks of his pontificate, tweaking the rules of the conclave, finessing the religious rites used to launch the next papacy and making some eyebrow-raising final appointments before he retires next week.

The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano said in editions published late Friday that Benedict had signed a decree earlier in the week making some changes to the papal installation Mass, separating out the actual rite of installation from the liturgy itself.

He is also studying the text of a separate document governing the rules of the conclave, though it's not known if it will address the thorny issue of whether the election can begin earlier than March 15, by some interpretations the earliest the vote can start under the current rules.

And on Friday, the Vatican announced Benedict had transferred a top official in the secretariat of state, Monsignor Ettore Balestrero, to Colombia ? an appointment that came amid swirling media speculation about the contents of a confidential report into the Vatican's leaks scandal.

Italian newspapers have been rife for days with unsourced reports about the contents of the secret dossier that three cardinals prepared for Benedict after investigating the origins of the leaks. The scandal erupted last year after papers taken from the pope's desk were published in a blockbuster book. The pope's butler was convicted in October of aggravated theft, and later pardoned.

The Vatican has refused to comment on the reports, which have claimed the contents of the dossier, delivered to Benedict in December, were a factor in his decision to resign. Benedict himself has said he simply no longer has the "strength of mind and body" to carry on.

The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, has indicated that Benedict would meet with the three cardinals before stepping down Feb. 28, in one of his final private audiences.

Given the rivalries, turf battles and allegations of corruption exposed by the leaks themselves, there is some speculation that cardinals entering the conclave might want to know the contents of the dossier before choosing a new pope.

Balestrero was head of the Holy See's delegation to the Council of Europe's Moneyval committee, which evaluated the Vatican's anti-money laundering and anti-terror financing measures. He has had a hand in the efforts by the Vatican bank to be more transparent and is close to Benedict's No. 2, the Vatican secretary of state Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.

The Vatican submitted itself to Moneyval's evaluation in a bid to improve its reputation in the financial world.

The Vatican passed the test on the first try in August, and Moneyval said it had made great progress in a short amount of time. But the Holy See received poor or failing grades for its financial watchdog agency and its bank, long the source of some of the Vatican's more storied scandals.

Some of the documents leaked in the midst of the "Vatileaks" scandal concerned differences of opinion about the level of financial transparency the Holy See should provide about the bank, the Institute for Religious Works. However, Balestrero himself wasn't named in any significant way in the leaks.

The Vatican is now working to comply with Moneyval's recommendations before the next round of evaluation. Lombardi said the lengthy Moneyval process would simply be handled by someone else now that Balestrero is leaving.

Lombardi said Balestrero's transfer had been months in the works, was a clear promotion and had nothing to do with what the Vatican considers baseless reporting.

Lombardi noted that the nunciature in Bogota is one of the most important in Latin America, with the headquarters for the Latin American bishops' conference as well as the regional organization for religious orders, and is usually headed by someone who has had experience as a nuncio in at least two other postings.

"The procedure for this nomination was started some time ago, as evidenced by the fact that the agreement (with Colombia) has already been reached," Lombardi told The Associated Press. "It was started well before the pope's resignation, so it's completely unfounded to link it to the news articles in recent days."

Asked if the transfer had anything to do with the broader Vatileaks investigation, Lombardi said he was declining comment in line with the Vatican's decision not to confirm or deny any specifics of the investigation.

Spanish Cardinal Julian Herranz, the Opus Dei canon lawyer who headed the cardinal's commission, has spoken in vague terms about the report and the well-known divisions within the Vatican Curia that were exposed by the leaks.

"Certainly, it has been said that this was a hypothesis behind the pope's resignation, but I think we need to respect his conscience," Herranz told Radio24 last week. "Certainly, there are divisions and there have always been divisions, as well as clashes along ideological lines. These aren't new, but yes, they have a weight."

After brief respite, repo men may be busy again

There?s been plenty of talk about the U.S. housing crisis, foreclosures rising to record levels during the recent recession. But car buyers also struggled to pay their bills and keep the repo man from showing up at their door.

The good news is that loan delinquencies fell sharply since the depths of the nation?s economic downturn and repossessions have likewise dropped sharply. In fact, they hit a 12-year low in 2012, says Manheim Consulting. But another study warns that the trend might soon reverse itself.

For the first time since 2009, the number of 60-day auto loan delinquencies increased during the fourth quarter of 2012, warns Experian Automotive, and with lenders writing more of the risky, subprime car loans that slammed the industry during the recession, the repo man could soon get busy again.

The Detroit Bureau: Audi set to reveal new plug-in version of little A3

For the time being, he?s sitting on his hands, repossessions fell by 27.6% during the fourth quarter, says a new Experian report, accounting for just 0.46% of outstanding auto loans. That was true no matter who issued the loan, banks, credit unions, ?captive? or automaker-operated finance companies, or other lenders.

?Overall, our Q4 analysis shows that the auto lending market is extremely healthy,? says Melinda Zabritski, director of automotive credit for Experian Automotive. ?Of course, you never want to see an increase in delinquencies, but when you take a step back and look at the market compared to where it was three years ago, we still have remarkable stability.?

For now. But Experian?s new report also raises some flags. Those 60-day delinquencies are up, albeit ever so slightly, from 0.72% during the fourth quarter of 2011 to 0.74% during the final three months of 2012. That was nonetheless the first rise since Q4 2009.

The Detroit Bureau: NYTimes Admits Mistakes - But Says Tesla Also at Fault

That?s enough to worry some observers, including Manheim?s chief economist Tom Webb who predicts repossessions could increase by 26.9% through 2015.

Industry observers say that if this happens the industry may have only itself to blame, however. In the years leading up to the recession, lenders seemed to be willing to offer cash to just about anybody. Indeed, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi nearly went broke when it was burned by a NINJA loan program aimed at attracting young, first-time buyers. That?s short for No Income, No Jobs or Assets, and many of the folks who fit that description were pleased to get a free ride for a year ? turning back the keys when the first payments were due.

Even with more conventional loans terms were loosened significantly, much as they were by housing lenders, creating an industry nightmare when the economy collapsed.

But automakers weren?t much happier with what followed. Lenders went to the other extreme. At times even potential car buyers with top credit scores could not line up loans. And the lease deals that had become a major part of the industry all but completely dried up for everyone. The lack of lending helped drive the U.S. automotive market into its biggest downturn since the Great Depression.

The Detroit Bureau: Prepping the Next Ford Mustang

On the positive side, that meant only the most qualified and responsible customers were signing for loans. And, in turn, delinquencies plunged by 31.8% between 2009 and 2012 ? last year only 1.3 million vehicles being repossessed, according to Manheim, the lowest level in a dozen years.

But even as repos fell, lenders were loosening terms last year, a factor in the unexpectedly strong revival of the U.S. automotive market which soared to 14.5 million last year. Even more credit will be needed to fuel an anticipated surge that could see 15.5 million for 2013.

The question is whether lenders will return to the practices that caught up with them during the recession or if more qualified buyers will re-enter the market. The slight rise in fourth-quarter repossessions gives reason for economists like Manheim?s Webb to be worried.

Malloy joins critics of GOP on budget impasse

WASHINGTON -- Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and other Democratic governors got a pep talk Friday from President Obama about the impact of the looming March 1 sequestration, and they joined in pinning the blame for the impasse on Republicans.

Malloy, in town for the winter meeting of the National Governors Association, told reporters that Obama was finding it difficult to negotiate with congressional Republicans.

"There is no leadership in the Republican Congress or the Senate and maybe that's the big problem -- there's nobody to deal with anymore," Malloy said, adding that House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., have problems within their own party caucuses.

Some Republican lawmakers are adamantly opposed to Obama's approach to the budget deficit, saying the president doesn't want to cut spending sharply enough but instead wants to rely on tax increases. They've also expressed anger that, in their view, he's unfairly portraying them as the side that is refusing to compromise.

Malloy stood bare-headed in sleet and freezing rain outside the White House as he and other Democratic governors -- Peter Shumlin of Vermont, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Martin O'Malley of Maryland and John Hickenlooper of Colorado -- held a news conference after meeting with Obama.

Shumlin, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, said Democratic governors should urge Republican governors to press their GOP colleagues in Congress to adopt the Obama approach.

The message to Republican governors, he said, is: "Speak up! Don't be part of the problem."

The NGA convenes here Saturday for two days of conferences.

Sequestration means that $85 billion in phased federal spending cuts kick in starting March 1. The reductions are the result of a 2011 law that Obama and Congress enacted as a draconian incentive for the administration and Congress to reach agreement on a deficit-cutting plan. Lacking an agreement, sequestration would kick in automatically.

No agreement has been reached.

Storm pounds Midwest, eyes Northeast

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - A major winter storm moved into the U.S. Midwest on Thursday, blanketing states from Minnesota to Ohio with a mix of blinding snow, sleet and freezing rain.

The same storm dumped more than a foot of snow in Kansas, stranded motorists on highways and forced airports to cancel hundreds of flights.

The storm is expected to eventually reach the East Coast this weekend, delivering heavy snow to parts of New England for a third straight weekend, from northern Connecticut to southern Maine.

Kansas bore the brunt of the storm, with up to 15 inches of snow in some parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service. A 200-mile (323-km) stretch of Interstate 70 in central Kansas was closed and strewn with cars stuck in snow.

National Guard troops riding in Humvees were dispatched to look for stranded motorists along the interstate and other highways, said Sharon Watson, a spokeswoman for Kansas emergency management services.

The fierce storm triggered severe thunderstorms from eastern Texas to Georgia.

Thunder accompanied snow in Kansas City, hit by 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour on Thursday morning.

"When there is thunder and lightning, it's a pretty screaming clue that you are going to have massive snowfall," said Andy Bailey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and Kansas Governor Sam Brownback declared states of emergency because of hazardous travel and possible power outages. Brownback ordered state offices closed because of the storm.

STORM BRINGS SOME DROUGHT RELIEF

Kansas City International Airport was closed on Thursday while crews cleared runways. It was unclear when the airport would reopen, spokesman Joe McBride said.

At the Denver International Airport, some 55 commuter flights were canceled overnight, spokeswoman Laura Coale said. More than 320 flights in and out of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport were scrapped and nearly 50 flights in and out of Omaha's Eppley Airfield were listed as canceled by midday.

In Nebraska, a 19-year-old woman was killed in a two-car accident on Wednesday on Interstate 80 near Giltner. The Nebraska State Patrol said weather was a factor.

An 18-year-old man died in Oklahoma when his vehicle slid into a semi-truck on a slushy state highway, the state's highway patrol said.

Drought-stricken farmers in the Great Plains, one of the world's largest wheat-growing areas, welcomed the moisture brought by the storm, although experts said more rain or snow would be needed to ensure healthy crops.

"It's a travel nightmare, but all I hear are good things from farmers about how much this moisture is needed," said meteorologist Jeff Johnson of the National Weather Service in Dodge City, Kansas.

ACLU Appeals Decision Allowing Censorship of Torture Testimony at Guant?namo Military Commission

February 22, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: (212) 549-2666;?media@aclu.org

NEW YORK ? Asserting the public?s First Amendment right to open trials, the American Civil Liberties Union sought to reverse the parts of a Guant?namo military judge?s order granting the government?s request to censor any testimony from the 9/11 defendants relating to their torture and other abuse in U.S. custody. The ACLU filed a petition with the U.S. Court of Military Commissions Review late yesterday, and it was made public this afternoon after undergoing a security review by the government.

In December, Military Judge Col. James Pohl issued a protective order containing provisions that categorically censored the defendants? testimony concerning their personal experiences and memories of CIA ?enhanced interrogation techniques,? rendition, and detention on the grounds that it was classified. The protective order also upheld the continued use of a 40-second delay audio feed of the proceedings.

?The judge?s decision to keep testimony about torture secret did not even mention the American public?s First Amendment right of access to the Guant?namo commissions, let alone apply the high standard that must be met before testimony is suppressed,? said Hina Shamsi, director of the ACLU's National Security Project. ?The government?s claim that it can classify and censor from the public a criminal defendant?s personal experience and memories of CIA-imposed torture is legally untenable and morally abhorrent. Even if the government somehow had that Orwellian classification authority, copious details about the CIA?s torture and black-site detention program are already public knowledge, and the government has no legitimate reason to censor the defendants? testimony about their own memories of it.?

In the government?s request last year to classify the testimony, it contended that any statements by the defendants concerning their ?exposure? to the CIA?s detention and interrogation program are classified as ?sources, methods and activities? of the U.S. and can be withheld from the public.

In May 2012, the ACLU filed a motion asking the commission to deny the government?s request and to bar a delayed audio feed of the proceedings, or, in the alternative, promptly release an uncensored transcript. A group of 14 press organizations also filed a motion in support of the media?s right to access the commission's proceedings, which was denied by the judge as well, and they have also challenged the protective order. The government?s response in both cases is due March 6.

I have been privileged to work in Australia, Singapore, have held different negotiation positions from government to non-governmental agencies on businesses.

I have also worked in California and Chicago before returning back to Nigeria where I decided to bring home all these experiences from these diverse cultures and synchronize them with adding values to as many people in the country.

Like we all know, negotiation is an everyday skill that occurs at home, place of work and it?s something we cannot do away with and from my research,I have realized over the years that Africa is not in need of being pitied, what we need is the right communication channel and tools and the right techniques and tactics to relate with people either of business or non business related issues and this was actually what brought about the first negotiation business school in Africa; the Trans-Atlantic Negotiation School of business and the focus is on different aspects of negotiation; as it relates to HR managers, lawyers, entrepreneurs.

We have successfully done this within some couple of months and we are still in the business of adding values to Africans and Nigerians in the areas of negotiation skills and enhancing the ability to communicate and negotiate properly.

It will be beneficial in so many ways that which I will streamline them to few one which is how it could benefit to the small and large business scales enterprise. Although government has a part to play in the country and a mundane task that jobs are created and made available but to a very large extents, Nigerians also have a part to play in the continuity.

For me, sustainability and continuity have a lot to do with personal skills. In Nigeria, we do not have shortage of resources. Rather, what we have is shortage of skills and it all boils down to negotiation skills because with the right skills and techniques, you would be able to engage the client with some business terms.

In essence to Nigeria, it is very important to negotiate values before negotiating finances or salaries because that gives you edge above others. I am of the school thought that indeed connection goes a long way to build business bridges but Rome wasn?t built in a day as well; it?s always good to build relationship through negotiation.

What is the motive behind LABNISA?

The Lade Adeyemi Business Negotiation Improvement Scholarship for Africa is a CSR initiative of mine; my goal is to sponsor at least 250 unemployed graduates in each of the states across the federation. So we are looking at about 9,000 professionals across Nigeria and a 100% tuition free scholarship that will be done online.

LABSINA is also designed to teach and equip them with these skills such that whenever they see an opportunity, they are able to identify the opportunity and engage a discussion on negotiation with either an employer or business partners.

We are also here to eradicate flight by night entrepreneurship; it is here to ensure that as many Nigerians who are still in need of job employment and building themselves with negotiation values such that whenever an opportunity opens; they are able to tap into it.

While in the USA, I have trained over 10,000 professionals in negotiation business.

Based on statistics, 23.9% Nigerians are unemployed which means there are about 20million Nigerians without job. It is not tradition to start what I cannot finish ; I believe in starting strong and thereafter we move gradually.

I have taken cognizance of the fact that not many unemployed Nigerians have an access to the internet. Our intention is to affect as many unemployed Nigerians as possible. I have done it before in my country and now I?m doing it again.

You will agree with me that there are a whole lot of logistics involved and that?s the more reason why I am starting with few people and as time goes; we will definitely expand our scope of reach. Although I may not be there to lecture them physically, it will be done through cyberspace and through the effort of my team, we will affect so many Nigerians positively.

Kicking off the programme

We should begin both our training and scholarship class from the first week of February, 2013.

I will be going on different campaigns in several parts of the country including states that have been tagged un-secured now because we also have our strategy of doing that. In as much as there is this issue of Boko-Haram; it does mean that Nigerians? are members and I believe in the midst of the various inadequacies in this state, there are Nigerians who need food on their tables and seeking job opportunities. We are also covering the east, north and south through several radio and TV programmes.

We will also be having various communication modems on cyberspace such as the Facebook, Twitter amongst others. Specifically, I have been involved in negotiation for the past 10 years while the Translantic Negotiation School of Business is just a year old but we are in association with the two best institutions in the world that is Harvard University Law School and MIT Sloan School of Management and both schools have been topping the chart as the top two institutions in the world for over 50years .

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Leather Japan Presentation, Using a Lenovo ThinkPad

On the second to last day of New York Fashion Week, a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Powered by Intel with Windows 8 arrived, and the timing couldn?t have been better. With a full day of shows ahead, I needed to carry a tablet or laptop so that I could easily work in between shows, but got an even better option as I could take photos and even edit them on the ThinkPad! I loved that the camera provided a built-in flash and lets the user toggle between resolution options as well as make videos! It really simplified things for me, especially during this crazy hectic time, and I look forward to exploring all of the ways this Tablet will accommodate my lifestyle.

See below for pics from the Leather Japan presentation during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, showcasing eight emerging Japanese designers and how they used Japanese leather in their collections. My favorites below, include the amazing footwear from INI, accessories from e.m., and Kenji Amadana of BAGGTERY, the bag/electronic accessory charger.

Velasquez/Silva 2, Overeem/Dos Santos set for UFC 160 on May 25

UFC 160 will take place on May 25th in Las Vegas, and a couple of huge heavyweight bouts will headline the card. Cain Velasquez will defend his title against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, while former champion Junior dos Santos will meet Alistair Overeem.

The UFC's annual Memorial Day card in Las Vegas will have two massive heavyweight fights on top. One will be for the UFC heavyweight title, and the other might decide the next challenger after that. UFC Tonight was the one that broke the news (via Ariel Helwani):

Cain Velasquez (11-1) regained his heavyweight title with a decision win over Junior Dos Santos (15-2) at UFC 155, while Antonio Silva (18-4) knocked out Alistair Overeem (36-12, 1 NC) in the third round in their UFC 156 encounter. So now Bigfoot will get a title shot, just one year after being dominated by Velasquez and finished in the first round at UFC 146. Overeem vs. Dos Santos had been scheduled for that same card, and will now take place in a probable number one contenders bout instead of for the title.

Football: ISU?s new football facility played role in landing early enrollees

Back when the new Iowa State football facility was just concrete and steel beams, Cyclone coach Paul Rhoads showed it to Aaron Wimberly.

Rhoads brought Wimberly into a large, unfinished room. He asked the running back what he thought it was.

Wimberly assumed it was the indoor football practice facility.

?We were standing in the current weight room,? Rhoads said.

Wimberly is now going through offseason workouts in the space. He?s one of four early enrollees from the 2013 recruiting class already on campus.

And the new $20 million facility, which ISU moved into in November, played a role why each became a Cyclone.

?I could really picture what it was,? Wimberly said. ?When I came on my visit it was actually what he said it was and I liked it.?

Wimberly, from Iowa Western Community College, plans to play right away. He rushed for 1,125 yards and 13 touchdowns, while earning All-American honors, this past season.

The 5-foot-11 scatback figures to contribute in the backfield, the slot and possibly as a returner. But he knows it won?t happen if he doesn?t make the most of this winter and spring, where he?ll do all of his work in the new football facility.

?It?s more than you could ask for,? Wimberly said.

The 155,000 square foot facility, which was built into the current indoor practice facility, is equipped with everything a football team would need to succeed.

There are video rooms to review tape. There is a state of the art athletic training and rehab center.

But the crown jewel is the 11,000 square foot weight room.

It played a role in why Arizona Western Community College tight end E.J. Bibbs is on campus.

?That weight room is awesome,? Bibbs said. ?You go in there and take a peak at it. It gets your eyes a little bit.?

Bibbs, who was a second-team All-American in 2012, stuck with ISU despite a late recruiting push from Oklahoma. Like Wimberly, he hopes to make an impact this fall.

A month into his ISU career, Bibbs is trying to adjust to the Cyclone workout program.

?It?s kind of tough,? Bibbs said, ?but you get through it and it?s all mental. You got to get used to it.?

Offensive lineman Shawn Curtis expects to spend plenty of time in the weight room. Even though Rivals.com rates him as the third-best prospect in ISU?s 2013 class, Curtis knows most linemen redshirt right away.

Curtis, from Orlando, Fla., is 6-foot-5, 270-pounds. Rhoads expects him to top the 300-pound mark. Curtis arrived a semester early to get a jump start on adding some weight.

?I want to gain as much muscle mass as I can and be as fast as I can by spring time,? Curtis said.

The entire facility might come in the handiest for Orlando, Fla. linebacker Alton Meeks. The freshman spent more time in high school as a quarterback than a linebacker.

He can watch film with defensive coordinator Wally Burnham to learn the position. He can head out to the indoor field with fellow linebackers to get versed in his technique.

In the short time he?s been around the 6-foot-3, 240-pound Meeks has already learned that his days as a quarterback will help him out on defense.

?I was with (linebacker) Jeremiah George,? Meeks said, ?he was talking about something and I was like I understand why you do that because (it was the counter to what you would try) on offense.?

Why Phil Knight changed his opinion on Joe Paterno

Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, changed his opinion after hearing the Paterno family's rebuttal to the claims that Coach Joe Paterno knowingly allowed Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of children to continue.

By Genaro C. Armas,?Associated Press / February 11, 2013

Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach convicted of sexually abusing boys, leaves the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, Pa. on Dec. 13, 2011. Longtime coach Joe Paterno has been accused of turning a blind eye to the abuse, but Nike chairman Phil Knight said Monday that he no longer believes that.

Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, has shifted from his previously stated opinion to side with Joe Paterno's family. The Paterno family released its response to?Penn?State's?report on the Jerry Sandusky scandal Sunday, attacking Louis Freeh's conclusion that the coach hid sex?abuse?allegations against his longtime assistant.

In a report commissioned by the family, former U.S. Attorney General and Pennsylvania Gov. Dick Thornburgh said the investigation by former FBI director Freeh resulted in a "rush to injustice." Phil Knight agreed, calling the Freeh report "unjustified."

That report, authorized by the university, found that Paterno and three former administrators covered up child sexualabuse?allegations against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. Those findings last July were unsupported by the facts, said the family critique.

"The lack of factual report for the ... inaccurate and unfounded findings related to Mr. Paterno, and its numerous process-oriented deficiencies, was a rush to injustice and calls into question the credibility of the entire Report," Thornburgh was quoted as saying in the family's analysis, posted on the website paterno.com.

Months in the making, the report was billed as an independent analysis of the work by Freeh, who defended his report Sunday.

"I stand by our conclusion that four of the most powerful people at?Penn?State?failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade," he said in a statement issued through a spokesman.

The family's report concluded that observations related to Paterno in the Freeh report was unfounded, and were a disservice to Paterno, the university community and Sandusky's victims "and the critical mission of educating the public on the dangers of child sexual victimization."

The central claim that Paterno "was engaged in a conspiracy ... there's simply no basis anywhere in the report for that finding. That in my view renders the whole report of very little value," Thornburgh said in an interview with The Associated Press. "There's simply nothing in this record, in the Freeh report, that indicates he was involved in any way."

Freeh's findings also implicated former administrators in university president Graham Spanier, athletic director Tim Curley and retired vice president Gary Schultz. Less than two weeks after the Freeh report was released in July, the NCAA acted with uncharacteristic speed in levying massive sanctions against the football program for the scandal.

"Taking into account the available witness statements and evidence, it is more reasonable to conclude that, in order to avoid the consequences of bad publicity, the most powerful leaders at?Penn?State?University ? Messrs. Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley ? repeatedly concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky's childabuse," Freeh wrote in releasing the report.

KU football commitment Marcus Jenkins-Moore not going anywhere

Class of 2013 linebacker Marcus Jenkins-Moore poses with KU linebackers coach Clint Bowen during a recent visit in California.

Class of 2013 linebacker Marcus Jenkins-Moore poses with KU linebackers coach Clint Bowen during a recent visit in California. by Matt Tait

Kansas University commitment Marcus Jenkins-Moore caused quite a stir late Wednesday afternoon, when he posted on both his Facebook page and his Twitter account that he had plans to take an official visit to Louisville.

Jenkins-Moore, one of the biggest KU supporters in the current recruiting class, hails from Louisville and the news spread quickly. Fans took to message boards and Twitter in search of answers, some going as far as to say their hearts dropped or that their days were ruined.

In the end, it all turned out to be much ado about nothing.

When reached by phone by the Journal-World, Jenkins-Moore said he was just ?bored? and simply was ?playin' around.?

Later, on the social media sites, he said he simply floated the fake message out there to see if KU fans would notice.

They did. And so did he.

Later, he returned to the popular sites to post the following soothing statements:

?I was just playin,? he wrote on Facebook. ?It's Rock Chalk til the death of me!?

As for Twitter, the Pierce Community College linebacker was busy responding to numerous KU fans but also fit in the following: ?Just playin around a lil bit! No worries ?#Kansas ! There's only gonna be one hat present in 7 days! Cracked a joke on my ?#KU family! Forgive me.?

Jenkins-Moore more is one of 15 players expected to sign national letters of intent next Wednesday, the first day of the regular football signing period.

Jenkins-Moore said he could not wait to make it official and that he had started a countdown for his arrival on campus.

As for his partner in crime, Pierce defensive tackle Marquel Combs, who was not believed to be in on the Twitter/Facebook prank, Jenkins-Moore said he thought Combs would be returning to Pierce for the spring semester to finish up classes that did not transfer and the two of them would report to Lawrence in June.

That was just his read on the situation, though, and by no means is official. Combs signed with KU in December and had planned to arrive on campus in time for the start of the spring semester but has not yet reported.

We'll keep an eye on that situation as well as Twitter, but don't expect any more jokes from Jenkins-Moore before next Wednesday.

Colorado GOP bill would nullify possible federal gun limits

In an effort to stave off firearms restrictions being handed down from Washington, state Republicans have presented a bill that would nullify such federal efforts in Colorado.

The bill, sponsored by state Sen. Vicki Marble, R-Fort Collins, would prohibit state employees from enforcing some firearms laws or statutes that become effective after Jan. 1 of this year ? specifically any laws that ban assault weapons, limit magazine size or restrict a person's ability to buy a gun.

The bill would make it a misdemeanor for a federal agent to attempt to enforce such a law and authorize the state attorney general to defend a Colorado resident accused of violating such a federal regulation.

In January, President Obama issued 23 executive orders aimed at curbing gun violence. Among those orders, the president called for the launch of a national gun safety campaign and the need to improve incentives for states to share information with the federal background check system.

"It protects law-abiding citizens," Marble said, in reference to her bill. "We can't let the federal government infringe on our Second Amendment rights."

The bill's presentation comes after sheriffs in El Paso, Larimer, Garfield and Weld counties in the past recent weeks issued statements against enforcing gun regulations they considered unconstitutional.

The bill has no support from Democrats, who control both houses of the legislature, says Marble. It's set to be heard next month in the State, Veterans and Military affairs committee where it will likely die.

"The bill's lack of respect for the supremacy of federal law and federal jurisdiction over states is astonishing," said state Sen. Pat Steadman, D- Denver.

Recently the County Sheriffs of Colorado called on state and national lawmakers to hold off on any "hasty" new gun laws in the wake of mass shootings in Aurora and at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

Colorado Democrats are poised to introduce legislation that would require background checks on all private gun sales and a ban on high capacity magazines in the coming weeks.
